Northern lights by month

The northern lights appear during the dark winter months, with the strongest activity typically in September/October and March/April. While these months often have high activity, the aurora can be strong at any time, depending on clear skies and solar conditions. Don't loose hope if the sky looks cloudy. Sometimes a short drive out of town can lead to open skies and a breathtaking display. In summer, the midnight sun makes it impossible to see them.
